There
are two great rules of life, the one general and the other particular.
The first is that everyone can, in the end, get what he wants if he only
tries. This is the general rule. The particular rule is that every
individual is more or less an exception to the general rule - Samuel
Butler, English Author 1835-1902

Be
Consistent – In order to yield the best results from one’s training, it
is important to be consistent. For example, training 4 days every week
will lead to better results than training one day one week, then 7 times
the following week, then two times the week after.
Positive
Mental Attitude (PMA) – This philosophy is the idea that every situation
can be turned into a positive. For instance, if one is running up a hill
and it really hurts, one can think how the action of running up the hill
will make one stronger and, therefore, is beneficial. I have found this
idea to be extremely helpful in running. The concept can be further
extended to life in everyday situations. A fight with a loved one can be
looked at as an opportunity to improve communication.

Advertisement Too often we are scared. Scared of what we might not be
able to do. Scared of what people might think if we tried. We let our
fears stand in the way of our hopes. We say no when we want to say yes.
We sit quietly when we want to scream. And we shout with the others,
when we should keep our mouths shut. Why? After all, we do only go
around once. There's really no time to be afraid. So stop. Try something
you've never tried. Risk it. Enter a triathlon. Write a letter to the
editor. Demand a raise. Call winners at the toughest court. Throw away
your television. Bicycle across the United States. Try bobsledding. Try
anything. Speak out against the designated hitter. Travel to a country
where you don't speak the language. Patent something. Call her. You have
nothing to lose and everything everything everything to gain. JUST DO
IT.

This is
the beginning of a new day. I have been given this day to use, as I
will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is important
because I'm exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes,
this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place something that I
have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil;
success, not failure; in order that I shall not regret the price I paid
for it. May I have sufficient wisdom and courage that this shall be my
record for today. ~Author Unknown

Michael Jordan on Fear
- I never looked at the consequences of missing a big shot. Why? Because
when you think about the consequences, you always think of a negative
result.
Some people get frozen by that
fear of failure. They get it from peers or from just thinking about the
possibility of a negative results. They might be afraid of looking bad
or being embarrassed. I realized that if I was going to achieve anything
in life, I had to be aggressive. I had to get out there and go for it. I
don't believe you can achieve anything by being passive. I'm not
thinking about anything except what I'm trying to accomplish. Any fear
is an illusion. You think something is standing in your way but nothing
is really there. What is there is an opportunity to do your best and
gain some success. If it turns out my
best
isn't good enough, then at least I'll never be able to look back and say
I was too afraid to try. Failure always made me try harder the next
time.
That's why my advice has always
been to "think positive" and find fuel in any failure. Sometimes failure
actually just gets you closer to where you want to be. If I'm trying to
fix a car, every time I try something that doesn't work, I'm getting
closer to finding the answer. The greatest inventions in the world had
hundreds of failures before the answers were found.
I think fear sometimes comes
from a lack of focus or concentration. If I had stood at the free-throw
line and thought about 10 million people watching me on the other side
of the camera lens, I couldn't have made anything. So I mentally tried
to put myself in a familiar place. I thought about all those times I
shot free throws in practice and went through the same motion, the same
technique that I had used thousands of times. You forget about the
outcome. You know you are doing the right things. So you relax and
perform. After that, you can't control anything anyway. It's out of your
hands, so don't worry about it. -Michael Jordan
